Personal, customized instruction by Heritage Pilates Teacher and Master Yoga Instructor, Teresa Cocke, in genuine pilates and yoga, focusing on correct alignment and body movement, strength, muscular balance, precision, breath and flow. Private instruction includes one on one time for evaluation, personal attention for detailed work in pilates and/or yoga, discussion and explanation of purposes of exercises and postures as well as detailed specification for positions and movement.
Pilates, originally called "Contrology" is a system of physical and mental conditioning. It is an "art form of movement" emphasizing core strength, flexibility and awareness as the foundation for "flowing motion outward" through the 6 Principles of Pilates:
Centering - physically and mentally focusing each movement to the "powerhouse".
Concentration - detailed attention to each performed exercise.
Control - mentally directing and managing each separate movement for stability and strength.
Precision - specific placement, alignment and proper form.
Breath - fullness of life, each exercise depends on the breath to allow the body to work to its highest potential.
Flow - energy exerted through the body done with fluidity and grace, allowing smooth, balanced, energetic movement.
Pilates is for all ages, all physical shapes, and all conditions.
It elevates health, rehabilitates injuries, builds confidence, strengthens muscles that support functional movement, giving the body a feeling of stimulation.
Body & Soul Movement Studio offers work on Gratz brand Cadillac, Electric & Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Small Barrel, Foot Corrector as well as Pilates Heritage Reformer, authentic Contrology mat work, magic circle, arm weights and more.
Yoga is a practice of using discipline and effort toward the purpose of unity. The unity of how our bodies work is interrupted by physical ailments and lack of mental peace. A consistent yoga practice calms the mind, trains and strengthens the body by deep breath exercises, slow, thoughtful movement, gentle pressures working deeply into the body’s joints, relieving the tension held in the body and guiding the mind to be in the moment. Yoga improves balance, range of motion and concentration. It is non-competitive and non-judgmental. It strengthens bones, improves digestion, increases blood flow, improves flexibility and vitality, helps to maintain a balanced metabolism and supports cardio and circulatory health.
Body & Soul Yoga is coming to your mat without expectation or pretense, practicing mindful breath work, moving the body in such a way to benefit the physical body and unifying body, mind and spirit. ("Love the Lord...with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, with every thought that is within you, and with all your strength." Mark 12:30-31)
It practices replacing cluttered stress-filled thoughts with gratitude and praise, releasing tension into our Creator’s care. It is an opportunity to learn in a private setting and cultivate a personal practice that supports your personal needs.
